THE ART OF TRANSFORMATION

Miracles Happen Here

This is the Miracle at Cedar Street

A capital campaign for our Rebound men’s campus at Charlotte Rescue Mission

More than a building.

Since 1938, we at Charlotte Rescue Mission have been meeting people where they’re at: alone, broken, bound by the chains of addiction. In need of a miracle. From safety to stabilization to recovery to extraordinary inner and outer transformation, our program is nothing short of miraculous.

But now, our Rebound men’s campus needs a miracle too.

Our vision.

Here’s what your support will make possible at our new Rebound building.

Z

Dormitory spaces that will allow us to serve more than 100 additional men each year.

Z

Counseling spaces to provide small private rooms for one-on-one intensive counseling and additional group rooms for the daily group work that is part of our 12-Step recovery model.

Z

Admissions area with private waiting room for new residents and their families to better maintain confidentiality and dignity while taking the important first step in getting help.

Z

Dining room large enough for all the Rebound men to eat together and still have room for volunteers to serve and interact. This new dining room will also serve as flex space for large meetings, community events, and special meals.

Z

Flex spaces for small group classes that will enhance our program and help our residents learn to thrive in our community, including: budgeting/finance, credit repair, anger management, and parenting.

Z

Medical offices where our nurses can deliver a higher level of care for our residents and allow us to expand our partnerships with doctors and medical providers who come onsite to provide additional services.

Z

An energy efficient building with reduced utility costs and new, built-in technology to improve the security and safety for residents and staff.

“My hope is the Charlotte community wouldn’t be comfortable with the fact that Charlotte Rescue Mission delivers world-class results in dilapidated buildings. If we value every life, then we will rally around this campaign to empower these men to ‘move beyond cycles of homelessness and addiction’ in facilities more reflective of Charlotte.” – Stick Williams

Why now?

For many years now, our men’s Rebound campus has not reflected the respect, dignity, and hope we seek to restore in the men we serve. Our goal is to build a physical setting that reflects the transformation from addiction to a future filled with hope and wholeness. On top of the aesthetics, the dire and unsafe conditions in our current building have created an urgent need to find a place built with our program specifically in mind so it can accommodate a variety of unique needs and requirements.

Not only do the poor conditions and inability to quarantine safely necessitate a change, the need in our community is also increasing exponentially. COVID-19 caused a surge in the number of overdoses and cases of substance abuse, creating an unprecedented sense of urgency for a new men’s campus.

20m+

24%

increase in Mecklenburg County drug overdose emergency calls

50+

residents and staff tested positive for COVID-19 in January 2021

50+

But this is not the end of the story. This is where miracles begin to take place.

We’ve Broken Ground!

On May 5th, 2022 construction officially began on our new Rebound men’s campus.

Why support the Miracle at Cedar Street?

For nearly a century, Charlotte Rescue Mission has been a leader in providing free, Christian-based residential recovery programs that help people struggling with the disease of addiction achieve long-term sobriety, find employment and stable housing, and restore and build healthy relationships. The numbers speak for themselves. And, with a new Rebound building, we will be able to walk alongside even more men each year, who otherwise may not have been able to afford recovery services.

“For decades, Rebound has been a grounding force for recovery against the ongoing disease of substance abuse. With the proposed new building, Charlotte Rescue Mission has presented the opportunity to elevate the program and spirit commensurate with their team efforts. I wholeheartedly endorse this challenge and hope our community can respond to the call.” David Furman

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are you choosing to build a new building instead of renovating your current space?

Over the years, we have worked as creatively as possible to adapt our building to our program’s needs. At this point, it is no longer financially responsible to do so and would massively disrupt programming to renovate our building adequately.

What are the goals of this campaign?

Our goal is to raise funds to build a building that will reinforce dignity and respect, serve 100 additional men each year, provide privacy, and be a resource in the community. The need continues to increase, and this campaign will allow us to continue to meet that need.

What are other ways to support the campaign?

One of the most important ways you can support the campaign is by joining us in prayer, asking that God would provide for this new building. We also encourage you to spread the word about Charlotte Rescue Mission and this campaign!

Will construction disrupt programming?

No. We will be able to continue programming in our current building until the new building is complete.

What happens if the Mission raises more than the goal?

We are in the process of deciding whether to renovate our current building to expand programming into fitness, workforce development, professional training, etc. Additional funds would give us the flexibility to decide how to steward our existing space to best serve men who come through our program.

Are other gifts accepted (stock, donor advised fund bonds, etc.)?

Yes! We accept gifts of stock, donor advised funds, pledges, and more. Contact Sharon Bremer for more information.

Are there naming opportunities available?

Yes. Please contact Sharon Bremer for more information.

Why has the campaign’s budget risen?

Between June 2020 and June 2021, construction costs increased by 15%, with material costs making up 31% of that increase. We also anticipate the fuel cost inflation will be increasing cost across the board. While we have attempted to reconfigure the building to be as cost-effective as possible, the reality is that building costs have risen dramatically since we originally set our budget for the building.
